I'm not a history buff but I just might turn into one. This book was very informative. I now know about the battles that were bravely fought by both sides. The author kept my attention with action on the battlefield and educated me with details of a brave college professor turned warrior. Good easy read.
Wonderfully written with just a touch of humor to offset the horror of war. I am a great fan of Joshua L. Chamberlain. I have one of his quotes as an inspiration on my Facebook.
Reading this book is a must-read for anyone interested in the Civil War. And one of its favorite sons.
It is the best book I have read in a long time!I have been interested in the generals life and have often wonder what he might have done with the remainder of his life.I know this was developed by the use of some ficton but based on fact.Very good reading,thank you.

Written as well as Killer Angel. The second story of Joshua Chamberlain. And his service to the Union. My favorite as a civil war hero.
I found this story of the history of General Chamberlain to be interesting and engaging. It kept my interest and entertainment and I learned valuable historical information.
The movie Gettysburg portrays the 20th Maine's defense of Little Round Top. It doesn't show Chamberlain s role in the rest of the war. It was heroic. As this book tells, he was a true hero, not a media hero. This book should be widely read as an example to current and future generations.
